If you would like a vacation getaway that offers all of the beautiful scenery that you could want without all of the tourists that crowd every other tourist attraction, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is a great place to visit. This is an area of the country that many US residents are unaware of, and that is what makes it such a great place to visit. If you enjoy the wilderness and you like to take in the simple things that the area has to offer, you’ll want to come back again and again because there is so much wilderness and greatness to explore in the Upper Peninsula. While making your way into the Upper Peninsula you should definitely cross the Mackinac Bridge. From here you should take one of the boats to Mackinac Island. The Island is a unique place where just a handful of people live all year around. No cars are allowed on the island, so tourists can enjoy walking or biking as they take in the sites and enjoy some of the awesome fudge that is only made on the island.
There are so many natural and beautiful sites to see in the Upper Peninsula. Just about every direction you drive in will put your feet in the water. Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, and the like will all offer all of the beautiful water experiences one could offer. There are a variety of great museums, fishing opportunities, water sports, and if you are in the area in the winter you can also enjoy great skiing at one of the many skiing resorts, perhaps even take in “Suicide Hill” which is located in Ishpeming, Michigan.
