Costa Rica’s CV scans like a holiday must-read. And the locals’ love-of-life attitude is infectious – after all, it’s hard not to be upbeat when you’re in what’s often dubbed ‘paradise on earth’. Topping its list of paradise credentials has to be its beaches.

Thinking about going to CR with husband and son and it still seems we have some flight choices, either arriving Dec 26 or Jan 1, staying for around 2 weeks. We have nothing booked yet but want to start with Tortuguero, then maybe Arenal (self drive or with hired driver) and finally a week on the Pacific coast with beach relaxing, snorkelling and diving.

My experience- Costa Rica was a very enjoyable and memorable holiday, the tour guide was absolutely excellent and everything within his power went smoothly. There are several memorable moments such as travelling up river to Totuguero and observing wonderful wildlife every few minutes, white water rafting on the river Toro and horseback riding along the shores of Lake Arenal.

White water rafting, the most amazing zip-lining, the privilege of watching turtles lay eggs on a pitch black beach, eerie cloud forest and dripping rain forest, lava exploding from Arenal, magnificent hidden waterfalls…
Everything about the place is just awesome.

I would say- Go for it. It was one of the best holidays I’ve done – with so many different types of activities – it covered everyone’s likes. I’d say that it was definitely the type of holiday for people wanting to do lots of things. Not the most relaxing if people just want a pool side holiday.

I had been there for holiday once. The whole variety of the trip in Costa Rica was excellent. I think one part I loved was the horse back riding around the lake heading towards Arenal. This was brilliant and we were able to have complete control of the horses and make the most of the riding.
