ALASKA – A CRUISDE DESTINATION

Jun-24-2010 By vinay

The relatively easy accessibility of Alaska through cruise ships and the breathtaking beauty of its wilderness have made it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.

Cruise ships begin their journey normally from either Seattle or from Vancouver. Most of them follow a route which takes them to Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan and through the Glacier Bay or the Hubbard Glacier. The tours last from 7 to 10 days.

Which cruise liner should we take?

That, as always, depends on your budget. The liners can be luxurious high end ships, or the more reasonable ones, which are just as good. They are all good value for money, since your board and lodging and entertainment are all paid for.

Where all should we go:

Once you disembark from the ship at any port, there will be a lot of tour operators willing to take you around to show their towns. You must take the helicopters up to the glaciers, since that is a spectacular sight, which is not visible from anywhere else.

How cold is it?

It is chilly, but not too cold. Most cruises are in summer, so just a warm bundling of clothes is sufficient. However, if you do take the helicopter ride, be very warmly clad.

Aurora Borealis activity in the Fairbanks area is incredible. Best Place. Aurora viewing is best done away from city lights. Hilltops are best, but not required. Aurora viewing is very popular at Cleary Summit, about 19 miles from Fairbanks. There are several lodges good for aurora viewing.

Alaskan cruises are one of the highlights of a holiday to Canada. Enjoy a unique Alaska cruise through the spectacular Inside Passage to Alaska, view Sawyer Glacier and visit remote communities only accessible by air or water. A cruise is a great way to enjoy an amazing holiday to Canada. A cruise can be combined with the famous Rocky Mountaineer train, wildlife such as Grizzly bears, a fly-drive through the Rockies or across Canada holiday to include east coast icons such Toronto and Niagara Falls.

I would just like to say our holiday to Canada was just fantastic hotels and all the trips where first class, Rocky Mountaineer was out of this world and the Mountain Lakes & Waterfall Tour was breathtaking as you can see we had good holiday. The only negative thing I can say was the transport from Calgary it broke down on the way to Banff.

I love this place and can go there every year if my pocket permits me too. In A Nutshell Alaska is an unparalleled experience. You’re often alone in a beautiful wilderness, lots to see. Unlike the other states. But it can be cold and dark. Or it’s summer and touristy. Also the place can be very expensive.

Wonderful! Words cannot describe the awesome experience we had whale-watching during our recent trip to Alaska. Our guide was exceptional, both with knowledge and hospitality! I will highly recommend Dolphin Tours to all of my friends for sure. Thank you once again for making my trip a memorable one sorry I could not include a picture here, but believe me, we got some GREAT pics!! Bravo Dolphin Tours!!

I had been there for a trip of 10 days with my family. We saw a group of 5 whales that came together to feed for over an hour. The glacier was exceptional, and we saw a mother black bear and two cubs catching and eating salmon, climbing trees, and nursing. Outstanding!
